The questions on this screen are about the rice-shop owner’s thinking and the townspeople’s reaction. The owner believed Ali would never come back, so he dared to open the jar. After finding the gold he waited a day so the secret would not leak. Later, rumours spread all over Baghdad.
Example: The owner’s wife needed green beans for cooking, so he went to the storeroom.
Watch out: The caliph knew no one in the case; he only heard what people were saying.
the caliph’s decisions = 哈里发的决定
These two questions are about the caliph’s decisions. After watching three boys act out the case by the roadside, he was surprised and pleased, so he invited the boy who played the caliph to the palace. He believed the boy was fair and clever. When the case ended, he planned the boy’s future.
Example: The caliph said the boy could one day become the best judge in the land.
Watch out: The boy was not Ali’s relative and did not come to the palace on his own.
choosing idioms = 选成语
Each sentence has a key word that points to a feeling or an action. Worrying that a secret will get out is zǒu lòu fēng shēng. Being overjoyed at an unexpected piece of luck is xǐ chū wàng wài. Being so shocked that you stare and cannot speak is chēng mù jié shé. Feeling gloomy all day is mèn mèn bú lè.
Example: The shop owner was chēng mù jié shé when the boy pointed straight at him.
Watch out: Tōu jiān shuǎ huá describes a dishonest person, not a feeling.
Tulis pendapat anda tentang pemilik kedai beras.
judging a character = 评价人物
Write your view of the rice-shop owner. He was greedy, stole his neighbour’s gold coins and refused to admit it, yet in the end the fresh beans in the jar gave him away. Explain the lesson you learned and say what he should have done from the start.
Example: Had he owned up early and returned the coins, he would not have been punished so harshly.
Watch out: Give a clear opinion instead of only copying the plot.
